Why Web3?
Web3 development offers some of the highest salaries in tech, the ability to work remotely from anywhere, and the chance to build technology that genuinely changes how the world works.
Prerequisites
If you already know JavaScript/TypeScript and have built web applications, you have most of what you need. The blockchain-specific skills can be learned.
Step 1: Learn Solidity
Start with CryptoZombies (free, interactive) and then move to Foundry for professional smart contract development. Build a simple ERC-20 token and an NFT contract.
Step 2: Understand the EVM
Learn how the Ethereum Virtual Machine works — gas, storage, memory, and the call stack. This knowledge separates junior from senior Solidity developers.
Step 3: Frontend Integration
Use wagmi and viem to connect your React/Next.js frontend to smart contracts. Build a dApp that reads and writes to the blockchain.
Step 4: Build a Portfolio Project
Create something real: a simple DEX, a lending protocol, or a DAO voting system. Deploy it to a testnet and document it well.
Step 5: Get Involved
Contribute to open-source Web3 projects. Join DAOs. Participate in hackathons. The Web3 community values contributions and involvement highly.
